  • Paulo Pinho was born in Luanda, Angola, in 1971. He received the degree of B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon (IPL), and the M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering and Communications from the Helsinki University of Technology (HUT).  Between 2001-2003 he worked as a research assistant and as a research scientist in the Power Electronics Laboratory in HUT, where his research interests were dc-to-ac switch-mode inverters and dc-to-dc switch-mode converters. Since 2003 he has worked in the Lighting Laboratory in  HUT, investigating the usage and control of solid-state lighting for plant growth applications, topic of his PhD degree (2008) in Illumination Engineering and Building Services. At the present he works in Aalto University as University Teacher in the Lighting Unit, Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation. His research focuses on the usage, control, measurement and characterisation aspects of horticultural lighting with special emphasis on LED systems. He is also author and co-author of several publications on horticultural lighting.
